As a child everything was FAR away. And I so often had that famous phrase “Are we there yet?” running through my mind. When Joe and I started dating we travelled from Bethlehem, PA to Winston-Salem, NC frequently and then from Cinnaminson, NJ to Winston-Salem. I’m pretty certain that phrase came out of my mouth instead of simply running across my mind.
Then along comes a child. Born in Georgia. Joe and I served on various boards plus it was very important for us to have our child know Joe’s family. So we frequented I-85 from metro Atlanta to Winston-Salem. As our child grew into a toddler, even with every stuffed animal, books, dinosaurs, leap pad piled around him and music on CD player that we all sang to, there was a impromptu line often from a little voice “Are We there yet”. No not quite would come out of our mouths.
I’ve discovered a new meaning to “Are we there yet?” my journey to getting my Doctor of Ministry hasn’t always been easy. My advisor and mentor during the dissertation writing phase kept saying you are so close Kelly. Well I kept wanting to get there.
The time is near – however not quite yet. The rehearsal process today was full of instructions and lines – at one point I felt like boldly saying “Are we there yet?”. Processing in and recessing out a couple of times made my head twirl and I’m wondering still “Are we there yet”?
It suspect there is a method and I wonder if I’ll get there in the “right” way, with the correct steps in the right order. However, I suspect tomorrow my wanderings of “Are we there yet?” will soon turn into “what’s next”?
When do you most remember saying “Are we there yet”? Where we you going and once there did you ever wonder “what’s next”?
